"If you want to ask me where I'd love to go," Howard says. "Just for fun? Italy. Yeah. No place like Italy. Tuscany, yeah. There's just something about the Italians. I remember seeing a sign on a friend's wall once, it said, 'If you have a shirt, and a desire to travel, sell your shirt and go to Italy.' Yeah, Italy. It's physically beautiful, the food is great, the people are terrific."

Howard has also taught in Paris, another of his favorite places. Of the City of Lights, he says, "Paris, another great city. We lived right in the heart of Paris, in the Latin Quarter. We could walk everywhere. We could walk downstairs to the open air market, with all these fantastic foods and flowers. And you didn't have to go into a restaurant to have lunch, you could just stock up in the market and go to the Luxembourg Gardens, and sit there and have all this delicious food that you'd accumulated."
