"I always thought that Virginia was home. My father was a career Naval officer, so I spent a good deal of time in Tidewater, Virginia. I had a sense of anchor and of family there. I also spent a little time in Palo Alto, California, London, England, and Jacksonville, Florida. It was grand to be a young girl in London and going around in the Tube, and it was wonderful to be out at Stanford University for a year or two."
