Giove's special talent is the ability to push herself past all limits, to ride her bike downhill faster than most people on the planet. Now, via Team Amazon, she's showing the way for other young women eager to learn the life skills that competitive biking can teach. You can read more about Giove's adventures at: Missy's Zine : Please give a hearty welcome to ~*~ Missy Giove ~*~
SueDM says: Welcome to ZineZone and Talk City, Missy! Are you in a break from competition now?
MissyGiove: I am in a break from competition - I've been off now for about eight days.
black_panther9 says: Did you always want to be a bike racer?
MissyGiove: That's funny - when I was younger I wanted to be a BMX racer. My cousin was a BMX racer, and I wanted to be. I was about seven years old, and wanted a special bike to BMX race, and couldn't get the money. It was a childhood dream for me.
slowpokey says: How do you feel racing against the team you were previously on?
MissyGiove: It's fun. I enjoy the competitive aspects of racing, and it doesn't really matter that the same athletes are on the new team. It's just the color of their jersey that changes.
guest-Fe-man says: What hours training on the bike do you spend?
MissyGiove: During season downhill hours it's about 15 or 16 hours, but not actually down hill time. But that includes working with your bike, and time it takes to actually downhill, and I'm doing about 12 hours of maintenance on the road, and interval road running.
guest-Underdog says: How much training do you do on the road?
MissyGiove: During season it's twelve hours a week, maintenance and intervals, and off season it's like 15 hours.
rruano1 says: Have you beaten any guys in your bike race?
MissyGiove: Yeah, I beat all the guys! Normally at the World Cups races, the woman's winner will be approximately the 40th place in the world. Once I was 9th place in the Male category at a World Cup in Vail, and I was 3rd in American Male place.
Beckypsc says: What's up Missy? I was wondering in your spare time what you do for fun and do you ever visit NH? ;}
MissyGiove: I've been to New Hampshire when I am on the East Coast for races in the Summer. I used to go to college there. I like to read and I spend time at home in my house relaxing, watching movies, mountain biking, and Z-50ing it. I also like to watch foreign films.
guest-Hothead says: So was the split with Volvo-Cannondale as amicable as the rumor mill tells it, or are you just being diplomatic? :)
MissyGiove: You always have to use diplomacy; however, it was a business decision on their part. And that's really the end of story. They got a rider that had good results for a lot less money. And they found a way to cut the budget on their part. It was really a business decision, so I don't take it personally. On their part, it was really a business decision.
California_Mike says: I wanted to tell you Missy that I think you are the best! My question is what is the scariest part of racing downhill?
MissyGiove: Thinking that you're not going to see your friends or family again.
