Alberti spent 3 months living in London while shooting Todd Haynes' film Velvet Goldmine. More recently, she's been working in her hometown of New York, scoping out location shots for her next project: a feature film that's set in1940s New York. "It's been difficult," says Alberti. "Even when you find the right building for that era, there are little things like antennas and air conditioners that spoil the shot."
Someday, when she can take a break from her hectic film schedule, Alberti would love to visit Tibet, bringing her son along when he's a bit older. "I could be completely wrong or disappointed," she says, "but I want to go there before I die. I would hope to get a spiritual experience. It has quite an amazing history." In a small way, Alberti feels she's already gotten a sense of the country through her study of Buddhism. "I don't bang the gong or anything. I live in New York City, not on the top of the mountain. But there are some simple truths that you can apply to your life. That's my ultimate goal, to have that peace inside and to bring it to the people around me."
