ZZ: Last night I was on the phone with a friend of mine and when I told him I was interviewing you, he exclaimed, "He's a freak!" Do you get that sort of thing a lot since your show is so unique?

DR: [laughter] Well, my show has so many different moods to it. It's somewhat of a problem for me in the sense that people surf in, and sometimes they catch one thing and think that's what I am. There's wacky parts, and then there's lecturey parts (when I give food history and context and such), and people surf in thinking it's a college lecture. But then many people come in and they'll see me dressed as a punk with a nose ring. So I think the way to really watch the show is to watch the whole thing, because I try to coordinate it so it falls together nicely. It's kind of funny, because I don't think there's anyone who's as multi-tonal as I am on a cooking show. I get people who say all kinds of stuff, but the truth about me lies somewhere in between.
