Jenn10: What other strips do you enjoy and why?
Stan: Well, to tell you the truth, I don't have much time to read strips anymore because I am so busy writing new stuff for the Internet site. I have The 7th Portal, and also 8-10 stand-alone strips I am working on. Except for reading the Spider-Man strip in the papers each day, I don't have time to look at any others!
Silver_Surfer_lives: What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Stan: Believe it or not, I wanted to be a lot of things. First was an actor. I really wanted to do that, which is why I think I did so much college lecturing, because it put me in front of an audience. And I wanted to be a writer. I thought I'd write "The Great American Novel." I haven't quite gotten around to it yet. I'm gonna wait until I grow up before I do the novel;-)
Webby_man: What do you do for fun (besides doing comic strips)?
Stan: I have so little spare time, Webby, that my wife and I go to our "dinner theatre" - we put the VCR and TV in the kitchen on and watch a movie! That's as much fun as we can have! LOL! I love my work so to me it's like I'm just playing!
PerryCarter: I love to draw and am always making up comic strip characters and stories. I'm still in high school. What advice can you give me that will help me get into the business?
Stan: Perry, it's so hard to answer that. If you draw as good as those drawing the strips now, chances are you can get hired, because they are looking for artists all the time. No one has time to look at all the writing submissions - they take longer - but art is easy to tell quickly. Write to them, tell them a little about yourself, send some samples, and see what happens! I am a writer primarily, so I never drew the strips. I may not have been hired in my time this way. But it may work for you. 90% of the writers are not artists. I drew posters in the Army and illustrated training books, but that was all. I wrote when I entered the comics field.
guest-tumbleweed25: Mr. Lee I have been an Marvel fan for over 15 years now and was wondering what is going to happen to Marvel say after the year 2000?
Stan: Your guess is as good as mine, oh true believer! I'm a lousy prophet, but I hope it gets bigger and better than ever! I have my fingers crossed!
