great conflicts and you write well. What age groups would you say form the better part of your audience?
Stan: First of all, may you say it? Certainly you can if it's flattering! LOL! I never think of an age group. I just write stories I feel I would enjoy and I feel that if I can make them clear enough for a youngster to understand and entertaining enough for those who are older, I have done it right - a high-adventure fantasy. (I'm being unusually glib today, aren't I?)
HollyEdgar: Some people say that violent TV shows and movies encourage a culture of violence. Do you think violent comics contribute to that violent streak in our culture, too?
Stan: I don't think it helps having too much violence in movies and TV and comics and everything else. And if it's bad, the comics have to take their share of the blame. But in the kind of comics that I do, I don't think of it as violence, but rather as action. I try not to write things that are too violent, but I do like action. So with me, you pays your money and you make your choice.
Chewybacca: Okay, Mr. Lee, which do you like better - Star Wars or Star Trek? Have any of their stories inspired you?
Stan: Everything inspires me! I mean that very seriously. All of us are influenced and inspired by everything we see and do and read. And we're affected by everything that hits our consciousness. I like them both, Star Wars and Star Trek. I am not good at favorites. People ask me that about the characters I created, and I say if I like them, that's good enough for me. I never get stuck, luckily, in thinking up new ideas. I know other writers have writer's block - but I've never had one! If I've been writing many hours by the computer, I may get tired, but that's it.
SusieTownsend: Have you ever had the urge to write an "epic" strip - one that spans centuries, like the Star Wars story?
Stan: Nyahh, not particularly. I enjoy writing about one person as much as a whole civilization. I thought when I used to write about the Silver Surfer and Galactus, I was writing an epic story, but whether it's a million planets or one guy trapped in a room, it's just how interesting can you make it. That is what appeals to me.
SimianStar: Do you watch South Park? Do you wish the X-men had their own show?
Stan: Well, the X-Men are going to have their own movie! It's being filmed right now, and it should be in theaters next July! And I do like South Park. I like everything!
