Contributed modules make up a big part of the Drupal experience. There are modules available for just about any feature you could want in Drupal, but the first question is – what modules do you need to make administration easier to navigate and control?
It is important to do some due diligence when choosing modules and do some research in advance. Also of great importance is determining whether to use a module, create a module or modify the theme… these questions should be answered during the due diligence phase, and will be covered in a future blog.
The Drupal.org site was recently upgraded to allow you to search for modules from the main search box on the site. You can also filter your search based on the version of Drupal and some other criteria.
Each module page now has some important statistical information prominently displayed on the page. You can see how many other sites are using the module and link to the all important issue que to assess how stable the module is, and to take part in finding and defining issues to add to the queue.
The first thing I do after a Drupal installation is to download and install modules that make the job of Administrator much easier. Here is my list of the top ten modules that help make my life much easier as a Drupal Admin:
